Résidences Wintour offers studios and apartments in an excellent location in Val Thorens. They are right in the centre, with both the slopes and the nearest ski lift within walking distance. You’ll have everything you’ll need for a successful ski trip, right on your doorstep.

The apartments are simple but each one has unique furnishings. After a day of fun on the slopes, you can easily prepare something tasty in your apartment or head to one of the fantastic restaurants in the centre. Welcome to Val Thorens, the highest ski resort in Europe

Val Thorens has been a hugely popular skiing destination for years. At an altitude of 2,300 metres, this village in France is the highest ski resort in Europe. That means guaranteed snow and an extra-long ski season. There are 150km of slopes to explore there, and if you book a ski package through Sunweb, your ski pass for all of Val Thorens will be included. But that’s not all! Val Thorens is also part of the Les Trois Vallées ski area, which is one of the largest interlinked ski areas in the world, with 610 kilometres of slopes. You can choose to expand the ski pass included with your holiday to the whole Les Trois Vallées area. Both beginner and experienced skiers will be in heaven with so many options to choose from, such as the neighbouring resorts of Les Menuires, Méribel, and Courchevel. If you book this expanded ski pass before you leave, you’ll pay significantly less through Sunweb than it would cost on location. Will we see you there?

Skiing in Val Thorens

Val Thorens is the highest located French ski resort and the city center is at an altitude of 2300 metres! From here there are many ski lifts to even higher located slopes. The village of Val Thorens is located in the ski resort with the same name, Val Thorens. Together with the ski areas Les Menuires, Méribel and La Vallée de Courchevel, Les Trois Vallées is one of the largest contiguous ski areas in the world. Overlooking several glaciers, the Val Thorens ski area offers a variety of routes so that skiers of all levels can enjoy this beautiful area.

 

Lift pass

When you book a ski trip to Val Thorens including a lift pass for Val Thorens, you can choose to extend it to the ski area Les Trois Vallées. For the not so advanced skier, a lift pass to Val Thorens is usually enough.

For those who want to discover more and make long journeys, it is best to buy a lift pass for the entire Trois Vallées area. Les Trois Vallées is the largest adjacent ski area in the world. With 185 lifts and 600 kilometers of beautiful slopes, you will go on a true journey of discovery here. We recommend that you choose to extend your lift pass already when booking, as you will pay significantly more for it in Val Thorens. (Please note that no lift passes for Trois Vallées are sold during the early or late season).

 

Lots of activities beyond skiing

If you are tired of the long skis or your snowboard, then you can choose between one of the many other activities that the ski area has to offer. How about discovering different hiking trails, a helicopter flight, soaring at 100 km / h on the zipline "La Tyrolienne" high above the slopes or mountain biking over the snow?

Service charge (tip) in restaurants and bars :

It is not likely that the service charger will be added to the bill automatically. If you are pleased with the service you can round off or leave a tip of 10%.

Power:

The voltage is 220 and the socket is different compared to the general UK sockets. You can buy an European adapter in most airports and supermarkets.

Mobile:

A UK mobile phone should work in France. The setup for this may differ per provider, so it is best to inquire about this before hand.

Safety on the slopes:

In France, wearing a helmet is not mandatory but recommended (especially for children). In ski classes (for all ages), it is often compulsory.

Travel documents:

You must be in possession of a valid passport in order to travel to France.

Food and Drinks:

Cheese, croissants, baguettes and wine! It is possible to drink tap water.

Opening hours:

As a general rule, the shops are open on Monday/Friday from 09:00 to 19:00. However, some shops may close over lunchtime. On Sunday and Monday, a selection of shops are closed. Some supermarkets are open on Sunday mornings.

Travelling by car:
Most motorways in France require you to pay a toll fee. The Pas Piccolo San Bernardo is closed the whole winter (November - June). Always check the locat weather reports before departing.

In some cities and towns it is obligaroty to have a "environmentsl sticker". It is not possible to buy these stickers en route. You will have to order them online before you leave home. French authorities advise you to print out the form and the confirmation of the sticker if it does not arrive at your home in time. You can find the form on:

Flight information

You will fly into either Geneva Airport (GVA), Grenoble Alpes Isère Airport (GNB), or Chambéry Airport (CMF). Flight times can be seen during the booking process, based on your choice of regional airport.

Lift pass, lessons and ski/board hire

A ski pass for Val Thorens is included in the holiday price. A ski pass for Les Trois Vallées can be booked at an additional cost.

You can see the surcharges and discounts for, for example, extending your ski pass or no ski pass in step 1 (preferences) of the booking process. It is possible to upgrade the Val Thorens ski pass into a Les Trois Vallées ski pass onsite for an additional charge. However, it is not possible to downgrade the Les Trois Vallées ski pass into a Val Thorens ski pass onsite. No money will be refunded for this.

Ski passes for children up to 4 years old are free and seniors will receive a discount. These discounts can be found in the calculation of your travel sum. Identification is required when collecting your ski pass.

Any surcharges and discounts are only valid upon booking. Other rates are applied locally. It is not possible to redeem your ski pass on another day onsite. An extension of your ski pass can often be booked as an extra; you will find the price for this further in the booking process. A discount for “no ski pass” can also be found during the booking process.

You can specify ski and snowboard rental directly when booking. Check out our FAQ  for more information about equipment rental.

When you book additional ski equipment of the 'Gold' or 'Diamond' class, you can exchange this once a week for free snowboard equipment or freeride skis (not on weekends).

Children up to and including 11 years old get a free helmet.

The following equipment can be booked:

Bronze

This equipment is ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The equipment is particularly manoeuvrable, so it makes turning and braking easy. Parallel skiing is also possible with these skis.

Silver

This is ideal equipment for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The equipment is manoeuvrable and suitable for cutting corners sharply. Even at high speeds, these skis provide great performance.

Gold

These skis and snowboards are made of high-quality material and are perfect for experienced skiers. They can also be used by skiers who have mastered parallel skiing. This comfortable equipment is suitable for all track types and snow conditions.

Diamond

These are high performance skis and snowboards with the latest technology and are suitable for the most experienced skiers.

It is not possible to book ski lessons online for short stays. You can arrange this onsite.

When booking ski lessons, you will be asked for your level of experience:

Beginners: Only opt for beginners lessons if you have never skied before.

Average: Can you already brake/make a turn? Then choose average and beginners.

Advanced: Can you already ski, but you want to develop your technique further? Then choose advanced.
