Location and surroundings

Tignes

Tignes is one of the highest ski resorts in Europe, second only to Val Thorens. That means guaranteed snow and unique slopes during your ski holiday to France. It is a modern ski resort divided into several districts: Val Claret (2100m), the sunny Le Lac (2100m), Lavachet (2000m), the cosy village of Les Brévières (1550m) and Les Boisses (1850m). Le Lac and Val Claret are the largest and therefore most known of the four. Le Lac is, as its name suggests, in a beautiful location by the lake. Val Claret is higher up and is the liveliest district in Tignes, great for an evening of après-ski fun.

Things to do in Tignes

Drag- and chairlifts connect all four districts to the Tignes ski area. Val Claret in particular is surrounded by beautiful, wide slopes. Several lifts also depart from Val Claret and Le Lac to Toviere and Col de Fresse, where you can venture into the Val d'Isère ski area. The Tignes districts are interconnected by free shuttle buses.

You can also have a great time in Tignes off the slopes. If you like to stay active, there’s a wide choice of activities to choose from, including squash, swimming, tennis, and the gym. Tignes also has many excellent restaurants, where you can try raclette, fondue, and other specialities from the Savoie region.

Tignes- Val d’Isère ski area

Tignes-Val d'Isère (formerly L'Espace Killy) is a high ski area that combines the Tignes and Val d'Isère resorts. It offers 300 kilometres of slopes and an altitude range of over 1600 metres, giving you challenging and snow-sure slopes of a quality that you won’t find anywhere else.

Beginner skiers will feel right at home on the 147 kilometres of blue slopes, but this ski area is particularly popular with advanced skiers. There are almost 70 red and black slopes in total and a wide range of challenging off-piste descents. Snowboarders can enjoy themselves at the DC Park, a large snowpark in the Tignes ski area where you can even watch back footage of your jumps to perfect your technique. With the ski pass included in your Sunweb holiday package, you can explore without limits through the whole Tignes-Val d'Isère ski area.

Accommodation in Tignes

Looking for a ski-in, ski-out hotel for your holiday to Tignes or a luxurious chalet with space for the whole family? There is plenty of accommodation to choose from in Tignes no matter what your requirements are. Even if you book a last-minute ski package, you’ll have a wide selection to choose from when you book with Sunweb.

  • One of the best ski areas in the world
  • Lively, snow-sure resort
  • Fast, modern ski lifts with a seamless connection to Val d'Isère

Tignes - Val d'Isère

Tignes - Val d'Isère is one of the most famous ski areas in the Alps, and includes Tignes and Val d'Isère. The region covers a very large area, and spreads itself across a huge range of altitudes. Experienced skiers and snowboarders will be impressed with the many black pistes and off piste options. Novices and fans of relaxed ski touring can head for the longer, wider blue pistes. The area also benefits from a fantastic snow record. Espace Killy is one of the best ski regions in Europe.

The slope down the Roche de Bellevarde, or more commonly know, 'Le Face', is a black piste that starts on the mountain top (2827 meters / 9,300 feet) and ends a kilometre lower at Val d'Isère!
Free riders head out to Le Spot, an unpisted area near Tignes accessible with the chair lift Col des Ves. Freestylers divide their attention between 2 boarder cross, 2 half pipes and 2 snow parks.

There are two glaciers in Espace Killy, which allow you to ski 10 months per year. The glaciers are also well worth a visit in the winter. Queues at the lifts are rare as the lift system is modern and well thought out. There are plenty of chair lifts with a windshield, cabin lifts and funiculars, (mountain trains), that help you up to the of the mountain in swift trip.

Guests staying in Tignes have the choice between two lift passes: the Super Tignes lift pass for the ski area of Tignes or a lift pass for the entire Espace Killy ski area. You can also extend the lift pass for one or two days on location (approx. € 27,50 p.d.). Outside of peak season, Espace Killy lift passes are not sold and sometimes only the pistes on the glacier are open. If you are staying in Val d'Isère the lift pass is included with your stay.

Lift pass, lessons and ski/board hire

A Tignes & Val-d'Isère ski pass is included in the holiday price.

You can see the surcharges and discounts for extending your ski pass or no ski pass in step 1 (preferences) of the booking process. If a child or senior discount applies, this will be shown in step 2 (price overview). Would you like to know which ski pass is included in your travel time? View our FAQ here .

Ski passes for children up to the age of 7 years old are free. Children from 8 to 18 years old, and seniors from 65 to 74 years old, will receive a discount on their ski pass. These discounts can be found in the calculation of your travel sum. Identification is required when collecting the ski pass.

Any surcharges and discounts are only valid upon booking. Other rates are applied locally. It is not possible to redeem the ski pass on another day onsite. An extension of the ski pass can often be booked as an extra; you will find the price for this further into the booking steps. The discount for “no ski pass” can also be found in the booking process.

You can specify ski and snowboard rental directly when booking. Check out our FAQ  for more information about equipment rental.

If you are staying in Tignes Val Claret or Tignes Le Lac and you want to book ski or snowboard lessons, lessons can be specified directly when booking. See our FAQ  for more information about classes.

If you are staying in one of the other parts of Tignes, you are unable to book ski or snowboard lessons online. You can book lessons onsite.

- Lessons in Tignes Le Lac start on Sunday and will take approximately 2.5 hours (9:30 -12:00). On other days, lessons will take approximately 3 hours (9:00-12:00)

- If you book lessons, it is imperative that you wish to book a lift pass for the entire Espace Killy region. A pass for the restricted area Tignes is not enough.

When booking ski lessons, you will be asked for your level of experience:

Beginners: Only opt for beginners lessons if you have never skied before.

Average: Can you already brake/make a turn? Then choose average and beginners.

Advanced: Can you already ski, but you want to develop your technique further? Then choose advanced.
