The apartments are spread across Châtel and have different owners, so furnishings may vary per apartment. The photos shown are therefore just an example. If you have booked multiple apartments, we cannot guarantee that they will be located in the same building.
Châtel in France is a traditional and atmospheric mountain village that has managed to retain its authentic character despite tourism. The ski resort is located just a stone’s throw from Switzerland and right in the heart of the Les Portes du Soleil ski area, with an impressive number of kilometres of slopes nearby: no less than 650 kilometres. The Châtel ski area itself is slightly smaller, with 84 kilometres of pistes, but it does feature a challenging snow park with rails, kickers and a quarter pipe. You will also find 9 kilometres of cross-country ski trails, making it a great destination for Nordic skiing enthusiasts.
The village itself is fairly spread out and consists of two centres: Super Châtel and the centre in the Linga area. The latter is slightly smaller, but both centres offer a wide range of cosy restaurants, shops and bars. You won’t find high-rise buildings here like in many other parts of France; instead, Châtel is characterised by low-rise buildings and plenty of chalets. New in Châtel is the lift connection between the two centres. Previously, you could only access the larger Les Portes du Soleil ski area from Linga, but thanks to the new lift, the entire ski area is now also easily accessible from Super Châtel. Wherever you stay in Châtel, you will be on the slopes in no time.
Among winter sports enthusiasts, Châtel is especially well known for its cosy, intimate atmosphere and extensive ski area. From the slopes, you can ski straight into Switzerland. Châtel offers plenty of opportunities for a fantastic snow holiday. With mainly blue and red pistes, it is suitable for winter sports enthusiasts of all levels. Advanced skiers will also get their money’s worth here; for example, the ski route from Châtel to Avoriaz is beautiful and well worth the effort.
Looking to take longer ski tours? Then you are in the right place in the Les Portes du Soleil ski area. Sunweb offers a wide range of accommodations here, including options that can be booked as last minute deals. So get your skis or snowboard waxed and ready. When will you go?
Because Châtel reaches altitudes of up to 2200 metres, the weather and snow conditions are often good. It is a snow-reliable ski area that is perfect for winter sports enthusiasts. Châtel is also a very suitable destination for families with children, offering children’s slopes, ski schools and car-free streets. Add to that the many activities for young and old, and you have all the ingredients for the ultimate family destination. These include childcare facilities, a playground and a carousel.
Not in the mood for skiing for a day? Improve your skating skills at the ice rink or enjoy a beautiful family walk. Or hop on the little train for a complete tour past cosy streets and traditional farms, with stunning views over the village. You’ve probably guessed it by now: there is plenty to do in Châtel.
With more than 80km of its own pistes, Châtel ski holidays take place in the vast Portes du Soleil ski area which has a total 650km of pistes. With a lift pass for skiing in Châtel, you have access to the Massif du Linga/Pré-la-Joux, the Massif du Super-Châtel and the Swiss villages of Torgon and Morgins.
For most on a Châtel ski holiday, the ski areas available are sufficient enough to head out and have a fantastic ski holiday. However, we advise advanced skiers skiing in Châtel to extend their pass to include the Portes du Soleil area. This allows you to make longer trips and visit the famous resort of Avoriaz. Although skiing in Châtel is more viable for less advanced skiers and snowboarders, the Portes du Soleil still has a number of fun slopes available for those with less experience.
Another perk about using these lift passes when skiing in Châtel is that they can be ‘self-serviced’ as the pass can be scanned automatically at the ski lift. Unfortunately you cannot extend your Châtel lift pass to include Les Portes du Soleil once at the location.
