Ski holidays in Châtel take place in a charming village located right on the French-Swiss border. It is a traditional, picturesque and atmospheric French mountain village and, even though skiing in Châtel has become one of the most popular ski holidays in France, it has retained its authentic character. The village is well known for its archaic architecture with lots of old wooden chalets and historic churches. Despite being surrounded by the fragile and historic buildings, a Châtel ski holiday is renowned by holiday-goers for its lively atmosphere and large skiing area.
Châtel ski holidays offer over 83km of ski slopes which cater mainly to beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. It is, however, a part of the vast Les Portes du Soleil ski area, and with an upgraded lift pass you can have access to over 650km of ski slopes as well as skiing in Châtel. Les Portes du Soliel is also home to other famous French resorts including Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets. With the upgraded pass it is even possible to ski all the way into Switzerland.
Châtel is a relatively large village that consists of two centres, which offers more than just skiing in Châtel. Each centre has many restaurants, shops and bars and there is a free bus services that can quickly transport you between the two. Non-skiing activities are also popular on Châtel ski holidays with snowshoe walking, husky rides and spa treatments proving the most popular among non-skiers.
Sunweb has a large range of Châtel ski holidays and, due to its close proximity to Geneva airport, it has a shorter transfer time than many other French resorts.
With more than 80km of its own pistes, Châtel ski holidays take place in the vast Portes du Soleil ski area which has a total 650km of pistes. With a lift pass for skiing in Châtel, you have access to the Massif du Linga/Pré-la-Joux, the Massif du Super-Châtel and the Swiss villages of Torgon and Morgins.
For most on a Châtel ski holiday, the ski areas available are sufficient enough to head out and have a fantastic ski holiday. However, we advise advanced skiers skiing in Châtel to extend their pass to include the Portes du Soleil area. This allows you to make longer trips and visit the famous resort of Avoriaz. Although skiing in Châtel is more viable for less advanced skiers and snowboarders, the Portes du Soleil still has a number of fun slopes available for those with less experience.
Another perk about using these lift passes when skiing in Châtel is that they can be ‘self-serviced’ as the pass can be scanned automatically at the ski lift. Unfortunately you cannot extend your Châtel lift pass to include Les Portes du Soleil once at the location.
