Skiing in Châtel

General information

Ultimate ski holiday in Châtel

Châtel in France is a traditional and atmospheric mountain village that has managed to retain its authentic character despite tourism. The ski resort is located just a stone’s throw from Switzerland and right in the heart of the Les Portes du Soleil ski area, with an impressive number of kilometres of slopes nearby: no less than 650 kilometres. The Châtel ski area itself is slightly smaller, with 84 kilometres of pistes, but it does feature a challenging snow park with rails, kickers and a quarter pipe. You will also find 9 kilometres of cross-country ski trails, making it a great destination for Nordic skiing enthusiasts.

The village itself is fairly spread out and consists of two centres: Super Châtel and the centre in the Linga area. The latter is slightly smaller, but both centres offer a wide range of cosy restaurants, shops and bars. You won’t find high-rise buildings here like in many other parts of France; instead, Châtel is characterised by low-rise buildings and plenty of chalets. New in Châtel is the lift connection between the two centres. Previously, you could only access the larger Les Portes du Soleil ski area from Linga, but thanks to the new lift, the entire ski area is now also easily accessible from Super Châtel. Wherever you stay in Châtel, you will be on the slopes in no time.
