Livigno

Livigno, a (duty-free) ski area, is on the boarder of Italy and Switzerland, 25 miles from Bormio. Livigno is one of the largest and highest ski areas in the region. Although it is such a large area, it came from humble beginnings as a series of three small villages along a short stretch of road. Nowadays, the Livigno streets are lined with charming old buildings. The village is known for its extreme cold, so don’t forget to pack your thermals. It can get so cold in the area that it has been nicknamed “Piccolo Tibet” by the locals. There is no need to worry too much about the cold though, as there are plenty of bars and restaurants where you can warm up and grab some delicious pizza or pasta. Dining out in Livigno is affordable, and there are also over 200 duty-free shops in the area to take advantage of.

The ski resort has lots to offer for both novice and experienced skiers/snowboarders. At Mottolino, there is a half pipe and a snow park for the snowboarders amongst us. Cross-country skiers and hikers can enjoy themselves there too.

Livigno

Livigno is a tax-free skiing paradise in Italy, close to the border with Switzerland. It is one of the largest and highest ski areas in the region, but it had humble beginnings as a small farming village.

Life in Livigno

Nowadays, the village still has its quaint streets and charming architecture, but it also has a bustling economy and modern facilities. The village is known for its cold climate, so don’t forget to pack your thermals! Throughout the winter months, the temperature in Livigno is usually in the minuses. This reputation explains Livigno’s nickname amongst the locals: ‘Piccolo Tibet’ or Little Tibet. However, the cold weather ensures that the area is extremely snow-sure, giving you guaranteed snow during your ski holiday. There are also plenty of ways to warm up in Livigno! Grab some mulled wine, a slice of delicious and authentic Italian pizza, or head to one of the luxurious spas in town for a sauna session. Goods in Livigno are VAT-exempt, so why not treat yourself to a nice souvenir after a fun day on the slopes?

The Livigno ski area

The slopes themselves are well-suited to both novice and experienced skiers and snowboarders. You can enjoy 115km of piste in Livigno in total, including 29 blue slopes, 37 red slopes, and 12 black slopes. The Livigno ski area is divided into two sections on either side of the village: Mottolino and Carosello 3000. Freestylers can take on the challenge of the award-winning snowpark in Mottolino, which has no less than 60 interactive structures to test your skills on. Cross-country skiers and winter hikers will also feel right at home in Livigno. When you book one of Sunweb’s ski holiday packages, your ski pass for the entire area will be included. If you start your day in the Carosello 3000 side of the area before heading over to the Mottolino side in the afternoon, you can follow the sun across the valley and have great views all day long.

Livigno

  • More than a hundred kilometers of slopes
  • Very suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers
  • Many off-piste possibilities
