You drive through the valley and suddenly it appears before you: Vars. This charming winter sports destination in the French Alps consists of four characterful villages: Saint-Marcellin, Sainte-Catherine, Sainte-Marie and Vars les Claux. Vars les Claux is the lively heart of the resort and sits at an altitude of around 1,850 metres. From here, you can step straight into the snow and explore the diverse La Forêt Blanche ski area, which connects Vars with Risoul. Together, they offer no less than 185 kilometres of slopes.

Skiing through larch forests and on wide-open runs

Whether you're making your very first turns, heading up the mountain with the family, or looking to cover as many kilometres as possible, Vars has a slope for everyone. The ski area is known for its wide pistes, sunny location and beautiful runs through the larch forests of La Forêt Blanche. Thanks to its altitude and favourable location, the area often enjoys excellent snow conditions throughout the winter season.

Looking for an extra challenge? Vars is the place to be. The resort is famous worldwide for its spectacular speed skiing track, where records have been set for many years. Freestyle enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy, with several snowparks spread throughout the ski area.

From apartments on the slopes to peaceful nature walks

Vars offers a wide range of apartments and hotels, many of which are located close to the slopes. Ideal if you want to hop straight onto the lift in the morning. After a day on the mountain, relax on a sunny terrace, enjoy a meal at a local restaurant or take a stroll through the lively centre of Vars les Claux.

Ready for a break from skiing? Step into nature. The area around Vars features beautiful winter walking routes and snowshoe trails. The protected Val d'Escreins nature reserve is also nearby and is renowned for its impressive mountain scenery and peaceful surroundings.
