Boardtype

For a supplement of €23,- per person per night, you can book on a half-board basis. If you are staying at Résidence Les Hauts de Valmeinier during Christmas, an additional €15,- per person will be added. If you are staying at Résidence Les Hauts de Valmeinier during New Year's Eve, an additional €20,- per person will be added. You will then have a mandatory Christmas or New Year's Eve dinner included.

For children from 2 to 12 years old, reduced rates of €11,- per person per night apply. For the Christmas dinner, there is a one-time €7,- extra per child, and for the New Year's Eve dinner, there is a one-off €10,- extra per child.

Half-board is served in Restaurant Le Chardon Bleu, which is approximately 2 km away.

Valmeinier

Valmeinier consists of the authentic and traditional village of Valmeinier 1500 and the more modern Valmeinier 1800 built especially for winter sports. This village is built alongside the piste and offers plenty of entertaining options. The hotels and apartments are predominantly built in chalet style. The lively village square of Valmeinier 1800 has numerous restaurants, bars and terraces. on Wednesday evening you can ski on the illuminated piste between 5 and 6.30 PM (on Monday evening during school holidays).

Valmeinier is also an ideal base for hiking tours into the area. Various hiking trails have been set out in the natural surroundings. There is a fun park with a boarder cross and a half pipe for snowboarders.

Galibier Thabor

Together with Valmeinier, Valloire in the French Savoie forms the largest ski area in the Haute Maurienne, the Galibier Thabor. More than three quarters of the 150 km (93 ml) of pistes are located at Valloire and this is the place to be for the real ski and snowboard fanatics. The 150 km (93 ml) of pistes are suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Since this is a relatively new resort, it is also equipped with a modern ski lift system. The resort of Valmeinier is connected to the resort of Valloire by cable car. From Valmeinier 1800 you can make great tours via Valmeinier 1500 to Les Verneys and Valloire and, of course, in the other direction too.

Together, Valloire and Valmeinier have 40 km (25 ml) of cross country skiing tracks ranging in difficulty and snowboarders can test their skills in the snow park which also includes a half pipe.
 
A tip: in the village of Orelle, approximately 25 minutes drive from Valmeinier, you can catch the ski lift to Val Thorens, which is part of the biggest interconnected ski area of Les Trois Vallées. If you want to ski or snowboard here for the day you need to pay approximately € 40,- on location.

Mobile:

A UK mobile phone should work in France. The setup for this may differ per provider, so it is best to inquire about this before hand.

Safety on the slopes:

In France, wearing a helmet is not mandatory but recommended (especially for children). In ski classes (for all ages), it is often compulsory.

Travel documents:

You must be in possession of a valid passport in order to travel to France.

Food and Drinks:

Cheese, croissants, baguettes and wine! It is possible to drink tap water.

Opening hours:

As a general rule, the shops are open on Monday/Friday from 09:00 to 19:00. However, some shops may close over lunchtime. On Sunday and Monday, a selection of shops are closed. Some supermarkets are open on Sunday mornings.

Travelling by car:
Most motorways in France require you to pay a toll fee. The Pas Piccolo San Bernardo is closed the whole winter (November - June). Always check the locat weather reports before departing.

In some cities and towns it is obligaroty to have a "environmentsl sticker". It is not possible to buy these stickers en route. You will have to order them online before you leave home. French authorities advise you to print out the form and the confirmation of the sticker if it does not arrive at your home in time. You can find the form on:

Lift pass, lessons and material

Discounts:

The lift pass for children up to 4 years and seniors aged 75 and over is free on display of an ID card. When you are entitled to a free lift pass, choose "No lift pass" when booking.

Passport photo:

A passport photo is required for all free lift passes.

The above fees and discounts are valid when booking through Sunweb. Other rates are used at the resort.

Lift pass (extra information):

In step 2 of the booking process it is indicated for which days the lift pass is valid. If you want to use the ski lift on a different day than indicated in step 2 of the booking process, please contact our contact centre by telephone. It is not possible to change the days of the lift pass once you have arrived at the destination. If you wish to extend the lift pass, it can often be booked as an extra. The price for extending the lift pass can be found in step 2 of the booking. If you choose “no lift pass”, the discount can also be found in step 2 of the booking process.

You can select ski and snowboard directly upon booking. With short-stay holidays it is not possible to book ski lessons. You can arrange ski lessons at the resort.

When booking ski lessons, your level is requested:Beginners: Choose if you have never skied before.Intermediate: Choose if you have skied before and know how to break and turn.|Advanced: Choose if you are an accomplished skier but wish to improve your technique.

The ski and snow board lessons start on Sunday.

Ski and snowboard rental can be specified immediately upon booking.

When you book Gold or Diamond ski equipment you can exchange it once a week for free, for snowboard equipment or freeride skis (unavailable on weekends).

Bronze

This material is ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. This material is particularly agile, so it makes turning and breaking easy. Parallel skiing is also possible with these skis.

Silver

This is ideal material for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The material is agile, but also suitable to cut corners sharp. Even at high speeds these skis provide great performance.

Gold

These skis and snowboards are made of high quality material, and are perfect for experienced skiers. This comfortable material is suitable on all track types and snow conditions.

Diamond

These are high performance skis and snowboards with the latest technology, and are suitable for the most experienced skiers.
