The ski lifts depart directly from the centre of the town, there are 58km of trails in the valley perfect for cross-country skiing and there are loads of hiking routes that pass through the valley and over the pistes. For those who wish to have a day away from the slopes, you can go shopping in the car-free shopping streets, there are a number of terraces which have a fantastic view of the lake and on the top of Schmitten, you can enjoy a drink in one of the cosy mountain huts.

Schüttdorf

Three ski areas and the Kitzsteinhorn

Skiing in Zell am See – Kapruns, gives skiers the opportunity to ski in the Hausberg and the Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See, the family-friendly Maiskogel in Kaprun and the glacier Kitzsteinhorn. You can reach the Schmittenhöhe with one of the three gondolas from Zell am See, or the Areit gondola from Schüttdorf. Cross-country skiers can discover 230km of cross-country ski trails of the famous Pinzgau-Loipe. For snowboarders, the region offers both a halfpipe and a fun park. You can even choose to go ice skating on the lake to Thumersbach if the weather permits.

The European Commission advises you to wear a safety reflector jacket in the event of a break down or accident. This vest can be purchased from the AA in the UK as well.

Lift pass, lessons and ski/board hire

A Ski Alpin Card is included in the tour price.

You can see the surcharges and discounts for, for example, extending your lift pass or no lift pass in step 1 (preferences) of the booking process. Discounts 2023/2024:

Ski passes for children born after 1/1/2018 are free. Children born between 1/1/2005 and 31/12/2017 will receive a discount on their ski pass. These discounts can be found in the calculation of your travel sum. Identification is required when collecting the ski pass.

Any surcharges and discounts are only valid upon booking. Other rates are applied locally. It is not possible to redeem your ski pass on another day onsite. An extension of your ski pass can often be booked as an extra; you will find the price for this further in the booking process. A discount for “no ski pass” can also be found during the booking process.

Silver

This is ideal equipment for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The equipment is manoeuvrable and suitable for cutting corners sharply. Parallel skiing is also possible with these skis.

Gold

These skis and snowboards are made of high quality material, and are perfect for experienced skiers. They can also be used by skiers who have mastered parallel skiing. This comfortable equipment is suitable for all track types and snow conditions.

Diamond

These are high performance skis and snowboards with the latest technology, and are suitable for the most experienced skiers.

TIP:
 Tell our rental partner your exact requirements (e.g. off-piste skiing) so that they can help you select the right equipment.
NOTE:
 a helmet is included in the ski equipment for children up to 11 years old. If you are older, you can bring your own helmet or rent one onsite, if available.

It is not possible to book 2 hour ski lessons for beginners.

Ski and snow board lessons start on Sunday and take place in the morning and afternoon.

When booking ski lessons, you will be asked for your level of experience:

Beginners: Only opt for beginners lessons if you have never skied before.

Average: Can you already brake/make a turn? Then choose average and beginners.

Advanced: Can you already ski, but you want to develop your technique further? Then choose advanced.
