Skiing in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl
About Obergurgl-Hochgurgl
Obergurgl and Hochgurgl together form the highest ski area in Austria, offering around 112 kilometres of slopes. One of the highlights is the beautiful descent from Hochgurgl to Obergurgl: a 6-kilometre-long run with an impressive vertical drop of 1,220 metres.
Just outside Obergurgl, the Festkogelbahn six-person gondola departs, while in the village itself you’ll find the Rosskar chairlift. The connecting Plattachbahn takes you even higher, crossing the magical 3,000-metre mark to the summit of Festkogel at 3,035 metres. From Hochgurgl, a chairlift brings you to the highest point in the area, Wurmkogl. At an altitude of 3,080 metres, the new Top Mountain Star viewing platform, complete with a panoramic bar, offers breathtaking views of the Ötztal Alps.
This fantastic and snow-sure ski area is perfect for beginners, advanced skiers, and especially families. The wide, varied slopes, plenty of sunshine, and efficient lifts with hardly any waiting times ensure an unforgettable winter sports holiday. Snowboarders can enjoy several fun parks, while true daredevils can take on the Hohe Mut, Austria’s wildest mogul run.
The area is slightly less suitable for cross-country skiing, although both resorts do offer an easy trail. Hikers are well catered for too, with a lovely walking route through the beautiful birch forest between Obergurgl and Hochgurgl (and, of course, back again).
