Update Austria measures 21.12.2021

Update 22 December:
Due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, the United Kingdom will be classified as a virus variant region from 25 December in Austria. Everyone travelling from the UK who didn't got a booster shot needs to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. People who are fully vaccinated AND have received the booster shot can enter Austria with a negative PCR-test. For now we do not know until when these rules will be in effect.

Travelling with children
Children up to and including 11 years old are exempt from these rules.
Children between 12 - 15 years (born on or after 1 September 2006) can travel to Austria with the Holiday Ninja Pass:
- Download the Holiday Ninja Pass form
- The children will need to present a negative PCR-test result on arrival (not older than 48 hours)
- The children are required to take at least 2 PCR-tests and one LFT-test during a week-long period an record the results in the Holiday Ninja Pass form. Note: The PCR-test required when entering Austria already counts as the first test
- PCR- and antigentest results are valid for 48 hours

You can find more information here.

Information about the 2G-rules:
On November 8th, Austria has put stricter rules into effect. For various locations (such as: accommodation, ski lifts and restaurants) you will need a vaccination- or recovery certificate (2-G rule). PCR- or antigentests are no longer sufficient. In addition, the period of validity of the vaccination certificate has been adjusted to 9 months after complete vaccination. Also, as of January 3, the Johnson&Johnson vaccine (1 dose) will no longer be accepted for entry to these locations in Austria. These measures apply to everyone from the age of 12 years old.

When and how can I rebook my holiday?
At this moment there is no other option then to follow these new rules. Do you not feel comfortable with these rules, or do you not meet the requirements? Then you can rebook your holiday:
  • With our Exchange Guarantee you can rebook your holiday once, up to 6 weeks before departure. Have you already added the Premium Exchange Guarantee for rebooking? Then you can rebook your holiday up to 2 weeks before departure. Please note that if you booked a holiday including standard flights and you would like to rebook your holiday, there is always 100% costs for the flights.
  • You can rebook your holiday until 6 weeks before departure via My Sunweb.
Are you travelling in 2022? Then we advise you to wait until shortly before departure, because the rules can change quickly.

Frequently asked questions:

I've had a single-shot of Johnson&Johnson and I will travel to Austria after January 3rd, what are my options?
When you've had a single-shot of the Johnson&Johnson vaccine, you are not allowed to enter your accommodation from January 3rd. A booster shot is then needed. If you didn't get a booster shot in time or you cannot provide prove of your booster shot, you cannot enter your accommodation. We therefore give you the option to rebook your holiday up to 6 weeks before departure with our Exchange Guarantee (and 2 weeks if you added the Premium Exchange Guarantee).

I've had a double-shot vaccine, but when I arrive in Austria this is already 9 months ago, what are my options?
From December 6th, 2-dose-vaccinations are valid for 9 months only after the second dose. After this, you will need a booster shot to get access to your accommodation, restaurants, ski lifts e.g. Do you not feel comfortable with these rules? Or are you not able to get a booster shot in time? Then you can rebook your holiday free of charge up to 6 weeks before departure. When you have booked the premium exchange guarantee, you can rebook free of charge up to 2 weeks before departure.

We are going with a group of which 1 or more people have had the Janssen vaccine / part of the group was vaccinated more than 9 months ago / part of the group has not been vaccinated. What are our options?
Travelers who have had one shot of the Johnson&Johnson vaccine will not be allowed to the accommodation from the 3rd of January without a booster shot. For the other vaccines, the validity period has also been shortened to 9 months after complete vaccination. PCR- and antigen tests are no longer valid. If you are not vaccinated or recovered, you will not receive access to your accommodation. If part of the group is therefore unable to travel, you can choose to rebook as an entire group up to 6 weeks before departure, or 2 weeks when you have booked the Premium Exchange Guarantee.

I have recovered from COVID-19 and then had 1 vaccination, is this sufficient for travelling to Austria?
Yes, you are considered fully vaccinated in Austria when you have recovered from COVID-19 and have subsequently had 1 vaccination. Keep in mind that you must show a positive PCR test that was taken at least 21 days before your 1st vaccination. The vaccination certificate is then valid for 270 days after your vaccination.

I have recovered from COVID-19 and have not had a vaccination, is this sufficient for travelling to Austria?
If you have had COVID-19, your recovery certificate is valid for 180 days. The proof of recovery must comply with the following:
- You need an official/medical certificate proving a past infection
- Written in English or German
- The certificate is valid for 180 days after a COVID-19 infection. Evidence of neutralizing antibodies can be no more than 90 days old.
