FAQ

What do I need to travel to Austria?

Warning! If you do not meet the entry requirements your visit will be denied!

(!) All adult UK visitors must present a certificate confirming their full vaccination or recovery to be exempt from quarantine upon arrival!

To understand the risks in a country, including the latest COVID restrictions (including for entry), always double check the FCDO Travel Advice for Austria.

When entering Austria, you must present a vaccination certificate which confirms full vaccination or recovery. If you cannot provide proof of vaccination or recovery, you will need to self-isolate upon arrival in Austria for 10 days, so you will not be able to go on holiday. There are no alternatives at this point.

Attention! From November 8th there are stricter rules in effect in Austria. Please check the following FAQ.

1. Vaccination certificate
If you provide proof of vaccination, or a medical certificate of full immunization, you do not have to self-isolate or register upon entry.

- Single shot vaccines (e.g. Johnson & Johnson)
  • You need a vaccination certificate confirming that you have received the full COVID-19 vaccination dosage
  •  You must show that you received the vaccine more than 21 but no more than 270 days before arrival.
- Double shot vaccines (e.g. AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer)
  • You need a vaccination certificate confirming that you have received the full COVID-19 vaccination dosage
  • You must show that you received the vaccine no more than 360 days before arrival. Attention! From December 6th this vaccination certificate will be valid for 270 days!
- Booster shot
  • You need a vaccination certificate confirming that you have received the full COVID-19 vaccination dosage
  • You must show that you received the booster more than 120 days after being fully immunized
  • The booster must not have been given more than 360 days before arrival
2. Recovery from COVID-19
  • You need an official/medical certificate proving a past infection
  • Written in English or German
  • The certificate is valid for 180 days after a COVID-19 infection. Evidence of neutralising antibodies can be no more than 90 days old.
NHS COVID Pass
Austria will accept the UK’s proof of COVID-19 recovery and vaccination record at the border. Your NHS appointment card from vaccination centres is not designed to be used as proof of vaccination and should not be used to demonstrate your vaccine status. More details on how to demonstrate your COVID-19 status you can find here.

Entry rules for children
Children up to the age of 12 do not have to provide a test result if travelling under supervision of an adult. If the accompanying adult has to self-isolate, the child must self-isolate too.

Children aged 12-18 are exempt from self-isolation and registering if they or the adult travelling with them are exempt from self-isolation, for example through vaccination.
